Abstract
1,068,971. Clamps; scaffolding. L. R. JONES. Nov. 1, 1963 .[Aug. 2, 1962], No. 29673/62. Headings E1S and E2B. A scaffolding connector comprising a body, a hooked element 23 having two hooks 24, 25 and screw means 19 rotatable to move the hooked element relative to the body, the axis of rotation of the screw means being parallel to the direction of movement of the body and the hook having mouths which open transversely to this direction, the arrangement being such that in use when the hooked element is in the first position relative to the body, parts of a scaffolding member 10 can be introduced in to the mouths of the hooks and the hooked element can be moved relative to the body by rotation of the screw means to a second position in which the scaffolding member is brought into tight frictional engagement with the body of the connector and a projection 26 on the body enters a suitable shapened position hole 11 in the scaffolding member 10 positively to prevent the disengagement of the parts of the scaffolding member from the mouths of the hooks. In the construction shown the scaffolding member 10 is tubular and is provided with two sets of holes 11, 12, each consisting of four holes arranged round the member so that four connectors can be engaged with the scaffolding member with their centre lines spaced 90‹. The hook 24 is adapted to enter any of the holes 11 and the hook 25 is adapted to enter the corresponding hole 12 immediately below the hole 11 engaged by the hook 24. The screw means 19 is threaded into a hole in the element 23 and one end is rivetted in a depression in a part cylindrical wall 18 of the body so that the screw can rotate. This rotation draws the element 23 into the body and when it is engaged with the member 10 clamps a part cylindrical wall 18 of the body against the member 10. The projection 26 extends from the wall 18 above the element 23 and enters the upper part of the hole 11 engaged by the hook 24. The body is welded to a second scaffolding member 13 and to a strut 17 for the member 13. The member 10 can be strengthened by internal plates crossing each other on the axis of the member in the locality of the hole. The scaffolding member 10 can be of square cross section in which case the end wall 18 is flat. The member 10 can also be of hollow semi-circular cross section and provided with a single pair of holes in the curved wall. Instead of the member 13 being welded to the body it can be releasably connected.
