Abstract

An electric iron comprises an electric circuit including the sole plate heating element (1) and a solid state device (8) the average current through which is responsive to an electric characteristic sensitive to the temperature of a control element (11) adjacent the sole plate to control the current to element (1), the device being placed where it is cool compared with the sole plate. As described the device (8) is a silicon controlled rectifier and element (11) is a thermistor.
