Abstract

1,068,468. Moulding presses. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 25, 1965 [June 26, 1964], No. 27055/65. Divided out of 1,050,663. Heading B5A. In a moulding press in which the moulds are indexed through filling, pressing, and ejection stations by a rotary support table 16, the material carried in the moulds 17 is first compressed from below then from above. Mould assemblies 17 each comprises a mould wall 20, a mould base 30 and a centre plug 36 all carried by members, 21, 23, 24 slidable through table 16. The base 30 is vertically reciprocable relative to the wall 20 by means of a lower piston and cylinder assembly 43 acting through a ring 37 having upstanding fingers 40 which is slidable within members 21, 23, 24. In operation, at the pressing station, an upper piston 42 is lowered to rest upon the material in the mould after which the mould bore is varied to compress the material to a required degree. Piston 42 is then moved down to further compress the material, the mould base being forced downwards against the piston and cylinder mechanism 43 until a pre-positioned mould base stop is contacted. Piston 42 is then further lowered to compress the material to the final required degree, against the stationary mould base, which compression is maintained for a required length of time.
