Abstract
1,068,369. Ship-stabilizers. JOHN J. McMULLEN ASSOCIATES Inc. July 23, 1964, No. 9621/66. Divided out of 1,068,368. Heading B7M. A passive-tank ship-stabilizer comprises a rectangular tank (10), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), charged with a liquid in a free-surface condition whose motion in response to rolling of the ship is impeded by vertically-mounted tubularbodies (34, 36) situated at each end. of the tank so as to form flumes or nozzles (38), the sides of the tank being orientated athwartships. The liquid flowing through said flumes is guided by pairs of horizontal parallel-plates (40, 42) which are attached to said bodies and have rounded or curled edges (44) to minimize turbulence. The motion of the liquid is also impeded by two parallel rows of vertically-mounted tubularbodies (26) which define a plurality of flumes (28) at the centre of the tank.
