Abstract

Concrete is reinforced by short substantially straight wire lengths uniformly distributed and randomly oriented, the average spacing of those wires which are effective in crack control by virtue of the fact that they are parallel or nearly parallel to the tensile stress being related by the formula <FORM:1068163/C1/1> where S = the average spacing in inches of the effective wires and is not greater than 0.5 inch and is preferably less than about 0.3 inch, d = wire diameter in inches and P = per cent of steel by volume.
