Abstract

1,068,012. Ventilating vehicles. SOC. ANON. FRANCAISE DU FERODO. May 8, 1964 [May 9, 1963], No. 19290/64. Heading F4V. The air supplies to the windscreen and floor space of a motor vehicle are independently operated by devices including lost-motion linkages which allow regulation of a warm air flow while shutting off a cold air flow. As illustrated, a fan (not shown) supplies fresh air to a compartment 2 which is connected through a radiator 4 with a warm air compartment 21. Flaps 10 and 15 control cold and warm air flows to a collector communicating through openings 18 with the lower part of the vehicle. Flaps 11 and 12, and 16 and 17 control cold and warm air flows to two further collectors communicating through ducts 20a with the windscreen. The flap 15 is mounted on a shaft (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), rotatable by a cable, a toothed segment and a pinion, Fig. 2 (not shown). A lever (28) is mounted on the shaft (25) and has an oval hole (28a) engaged by a gudgeon (31) of a connecting link (29) articulated to a lever (30) attached to the shaft (27) of the flap 10. The gudgeon (31) also moves in a guide (32) formed in a member fixed with respect to the apparatus housing. The guide (32) has two arcuate sections such that the flap 15 may be fully opened while the flap 10 remains closed and rotation of the flap 15 past its fully open position progressively opens the flap 10 to increase the supply of cold air while the supply of warm air is reduced. A flap (22) allows warm air to pass to the rear of the vehicle. The windscreen warm air flaps 16 and 17 are mounted on a common shaft as are the cold air flaps 11 and 12, and these shafts are controlled by a mechanism, Fig. 4 (not shown), similar to that described above.
