Abstract

1,067,529. Flexible - tube pumps. B.H. REFSON. Jan.26, 1966 [March 26, 1965], No.12927/65. Heading F1F. A fluid pump comprises a flexible tubular member 14, Fig. 1, of e.g., silicone rubber anchored at its ends and a rotary member 11 having a plurality of radial projections at circumferentially spaced intervals around its periphery with a portion of the tubular member tautly disposed around the rotary member. As shown, the rotary member 11 made from material having a low coefficient of friction, e.g. PTFE, has three projections defining three concave sides 12 joined by small raduized convex corners 13, 13a, 13b against which the tubular member is flattened to occlude the tube. The rotary member may be lengthened to permit of the use of two or more tubes carrying separate fluids. Since the corners 13, 13a, 13b, are too small to permit the fitting of rollers, it is desirable to fit an absorbent pad 27 soaked at intervals with glycerine and water to lubricate the tube to assist the movement of the tube over the corners. In another embodiment, the tube may be stretched over the rotary member in a substantially U-shaped formation.
