Abstract

1,067,360. Rocket motors; war-rocket launchers. OERLIKON-BUHRLE HOLDING A.G. Feb. 15, 1965 [Feb. 21, 1964], No. 6452/65. Headings F3 and F3C. Electric ignition means for firing a rocket propellant comprises a detonator 15 with a connection 16 to a switch contact 17 and a connection 20 to the rocket casing 3. A further connection 19 to switch contact 18 short-circuits the detonator 15 through a contact 9 of an electromagnetic relay 6. The relay 6 is connected through an insulated ring 5 mounted in the casing 3 and a contact pin 4 mounted in insulation in the launching tube 1 and leads 11 to a battery 13, the circuit being completed through a lead 14 to the casing 3. When a key 12 is closed the relay is energized and its armature displaces contact 9, thus breaking the short circuit and connecting the detonator 15 in parallel with the relay coil 7 to battery 13. The relay is mounted on a disc (not shown in Fig. 3) which closes the rocket nozzle until the propellant is ignited, when the gases formed disintegrate the relay. The relay may be filled with corrosion-preventing gases as a protection during storage.
