Abstract
1,067,273. Sound reproducing and transmitting devices. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. Oct. 14, 1963 [Oct. 15, 1962 (2); Dec. 18, 1962; March 8, 1963], No. 40447/63. Heading H4J. An earphone, microphone or other electroacoustic transducer has a magnetic path provided by a cylindrical sleeve magnet 4, a magnetic armature 8 and a concentric inner polepiece 2 on which is mounted a coil 3, and the magnet 4 is provided with a magnetic shunt in the form of a surrounding sleeve 6 which diverts some of the flux of the magnet 4 from the armature 8 via an alternative path. A substantially enclosed cavity is formed by a cylindrical frame 1, a diaphragm 7 of magnetic material and a yoke 5. The magnet 4, together with the frame 1, defines a substantially closed annular chamber a 1 which is acoustically coupled, by an aperture 14, with the remaining space within the substantially enclosed cavity. An annular spacer P is provided and a substantially closed disc-like chamber a 3 is formed under the diaphragm 7. The yoke 5 has an aperture 13 which communicates with a further cavity a 2 . The outer casing 9 is covered by an aluminium cap 10. The frame 1 and a cover (10), Fig. 2a (not shown), may be of material to provide a magnetic shield. In manufacture, the magnet 4 is first fully magnetized and subsequently demagnetized gradually until a sensitive transducer having a stable and well-balanced operation is obtained.
