Abstract
1,066,359. Making metal strip; rolling. KARL SCHMIDT G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 2, 1963], No. 31619/64. Headings B3A and B3M. A strip of aluminium alloy containing more than 7% tin is rolled on to a steel strip by feeding the alloy at room temperature to the rolls of a mill, and feeding the steel strip heated to such a temperature that the contact temperature of the alloy in the pass is equal to but not greater than the solidus temperature of the alloy. The steel is inductively heated in a protective gas atmosphere to a temperature 125 times the ratio of the alloy and steel thickness above the solidus temperature. The solidus temperature is around 228‹ C. and the resulting deformation of the steel and alloy is 20% and 55% respectively. The bonded strip may be cooled by compressed air or water immediately beyond the rolls.
