Abstract

A soluble oil comprises a free fatty acid, an alkylene polyol, a reaction product of a fatty acid and an alkanolamine and a major amount of a mineral lubricating oil having a viscosity index of at least 80, the ratio of the total base neutralization number of the soluble oil to the total acid neutralization number being 0.15-0.4. C12-C30 fatty acids and mixtures thereof are specified. Polyols specified are hexylene glycol, hexane-1,2- and -1,5-diol and pentane-1,5-diol. Alkanolamines specified are mono-, di-, and triethanolamine. The lubricant emulsion may contain formaldehyde, phenols, chlorophenols, phenyl phenols, 2,6-ditert. butyl-4-methyl phenol, aromatic sulphonates, and trishydroxy-methylnitromethane.
