Abstract

106,452. Loeb, R. May 19, 1916. Sewing - machines; needles, vibrating laterally; presser-bars. -Relates to sewing-machines designed for use in embroidering fabrics as described in Specification 106,331, and consists in the mechanism for vibrating the needle, and in a presser-foot which is vibrated with the needle and is reciprocated so as to leave the work free to be moved by hand while the needle is out of the work. The needlebar 16 and presser-bar 21 reciprocate between edge guides 19, 26 pivoted on the stud 20 and round ended set-screw 27 respectively. The needle-bar is pivoted at 15 to a vertically reciprocated bar 10, and the presser-bar has pivoted to it at 22 a member 23 which engages a stud on the spring-controlled bar 76 and is operated by a stud on the needle-bar as usual in this type of machine. The needle-bar vibrating mechanism comprises a counter-shaft 52, driven from the main shaft and having two cams 50 which actuate through the lever 44, a lever 38 fulcrumed on a stud 39 carried by a pivoted segment 41. The lever 38 is connected by a pivot 37 and spring 42 to one end of a bell-crank lever, the other end of which carries a roller 36 which bears against the needle-bar to move it in opposition to a spring 30, movement in the other direction being limited by a stop 69. Variation in the amplitude of vibration is obtained by varying the positions of the fulcrum pin 39 and stop-pin 69. The segment 41 is provided with teeth 40 which gear with a pinion 62 on a shaft 63 which is turned and clamped in the required position by an arm 71. The shaft 63 carries a cam 64 which acts on the end 65 of a bell-crank lever, the other end of which carries a screw 70 to provide an adjustable abutment for the stop 69.
