An oil storage rail car tank 1 is heated by one or more banks of serpentine steam coils 4. The steam then passes to a trap 8, from which the condensate passes through conduits 9, 10 to an annular jacket 11 around the tank outlet 12 and then to water jackets 2, 3 through conduits 14, 13, before discharge through drains 18, 17. Steam may also be introduced directly into the water jackets.
