Abstract

106,351. Morris, H. N., and Turnbull, N. K. June 14, 1916. Vessels for bulk cargoes.-A vessel for transporting liquids in bulk, particularly corrosive liquids such as concentrated sulphuric acid, comprises an outer approximately cylindrical shell and an inner cylindrical tank fitted either concentric with or eccentric to the outer shell. Both the inner tank B and the outer shell A may be divided into a number of compartments by transverse bulkheads C. The outer shell has an horizontal deck D fitted with trunks L, and the inner tank has trunks J extending into trunks K formed on the outer shell. The inner tank, which is intended to receive the corrosive liquid, may be lined with lead, aluminium, cement, or bitumen. The vessel may be wholly or partly submerged by admitting water to the space between the shells and is intended to be towed, the rudder R being operated by the direction of the pull on the tow-rope. According to the Provisional Specification, the inner and outer shells may have a shape other than approximately cylindrical.
