Abstract
A superpose cylinder machine has the knitting cams (31, 32, 36, 37) Figs. 2 and 3, not shown, for each yarn feeding station for the upper cylinder angularly displaced around the cylinder and in out-of-phase positions with respect to the knitting cams of the yarn feeding stations for the lower cylinder. Purl fabric is thus knitted in an alternating course sequence such that after knitting at one station in one cylinder the needles are immediately transferred to the other cylinder to knit the next course and this sequence is repeated continuously. The sliders are pivoted to release their needles by cams (38) and are permitted to pivot at their needle ends by recesses (28) formed in the cam systems. The pointed ends of the sliders act as latch openers. A retaining cam (29) is provided in the cam system of each cylinder to retain the needles in the cylinders as they move from one cylinder to the other and are coupled with the next operative slider.
