Abstract

Water-insoluble salts, made by reacting a dyestuff base with a dyestuff acid which is a direct, acid, chrome or mordant dye containing at least one sulphonic acid and/or carboxylic acid group (but excluding phthalocyanine sulphonic acids), are compounded with pasteforming ingredients including an organic solvent for the said salt to form ball-point pen ink pastes. The solvent specified is benzyl alcohol and the other paste ingredients mentioned are octyl p-hydroxy-benzoate, a neutral ketone resin and a softener. The salts are obtained by precipitation when aqueous solutions of watersoluble salts of the dyestuff acids are mixed with aqueous solutions of water-soluble salts of the dyestuff bases. A large number of known dyestuff acids and dyestuff bases are specified including those of the induline, nigrosine, dioxazine, triphenylmethane and mono-, dis-, tris- and polyazo series. Phthalocyanine bases may also be used.
