1,062,240. Brakes for rail vehicles; disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Dec. 23, 1965 [Dec. 23, 1964], No. 52358/64. Addition to 972,139. Headings F2E and F2F. In an improvement or modification of the invention described and claimed in the parent Specification, the solenoid-operated skid control valve 17 is associated not with a plurality of slave cylinders 19, but with a single slave cylinder 19<SP>1</SP> which is of the double-acting type. The rams of the cylinder 19<SP>1</SP> are coupled by suitable linkages 30 to calipers 31 co-operating with brake discs 32, one of which is associated with one of the two wheels carried by an axle of the rail vehicle. In a modification the deceleration of a wheel used by a skid detection device may be used to control the deceleration of another wheel of the vehicle. In another modification each brake on each wheel on each axle is actuated by a separate slave cylinder controlled by a separate valve actuated by a skid detection device.
