Abstract

1,062,136. Seaming. G. TAKANO and K. GOTOH. May 24, 1965 [Aug. 3, 1964], No. 21944/65. Heading B3J. A portable machine for seaming the edges of metal sheets, e.g. for roofing comprises a casing 1, an electric motor 2 and five sets of seaming rolls 56, 40 arranged in alignment so that the rolls accomplish progressive stages of the seaming operation as the machine is moved along the seam. The rolls 40 are mounted in a frame 11 which is fixed to the casing 1 and the rolls 56 are mounted in a frame 12 which is pivoted to the frame 11 at 13 and which can be moved from an open position (Fig. 4) to a closed operative position (Figs. 5, not shown) by a cam mechanism 21, the rolls 56, 40 being forced together by a compression spring 25. The rolls are driven from a shaft 5a in the electric motor by sprockets 34, 51 and a compound chain 44. The five sets of rolls are arranged symmetrically about the centre, the centre pair of rolls being the shallowest and the end pairs of rolls being the deepest, so that the seaming machine can be driven in both directions.
