[Also in Division G2] In apparatus for removing liquid adhering to at least one side of a web of film or the like, the web 18 is conveyed adjacent a capillary 15 at a distance d thereabove with a liquid bead formed between the top of the capillary and the web so as to initiate and perpetuate liquid penetration into the capillary by the action of surface tension of the liquid, and the liquid leaves the capillary at its lower end in droplets or in a continuous stream. The liquid bead may be formed and/or maintained by applying an electrostatic field between the opening in the capillary and the liquid on the web. The capillary maybe mounted vertically adjacent a horizontally-moving web or inclined relative to a vertically moving web.
