Abstract

1,061,981. Shelf racks. ARCAN EASTERN Ltd. Sept. 10, 1963 [Sept. 11, 1962], No. 35659/63. Headings A4B and A4H. [Also in Division E2] A structure having disengageable members including rectangular section hollow post members 10 and load supporting members 17 adapted for assembly in adjoining relation, includes securing means for detachably securing said post members and load supporting members, each comprising a plate 18 having mutually inclined substantially plane contact surfaces to make mating contact with adjacent side surfaces of a respective post member, with at least one downwardly extending tongue projection 21 struck out from the bight portion of said plate and arranged substantially parallel to said plane contact surfaces to engage one of a plurality of apertures 11 formed in at least one corner of the respective post member upon longitudinal engaging movement of said plate relative to said post member, whereby the walls of said tongue projection mate with and abut the internal wall surfaces of the portion of the corner of the post member with which the plate is in co-extensive engagement. In the construction shown the post member has apertures in both of two adjacent corners to that two load supporting members can be engaged with the post member by means of their plates 18; as shown each plate 18 has two projections 21 to improve rigidity. The post members and load supporting members are used to make structures such as racks. A construction is described in which two post members 10 are rigidly spaced a distance apart by horizontal and diagonal channels welded thereto to provide rigidity a plurality of the assemblies so formed being connected by load supporting members 17 having plates 18 at each end as previously described. The racks so formed are suitable for accommodating trays or pallets. The shape of the apertures 11 in the post members can be modified by making them taller and omitting the recessed portion above each slot shown in Fig. 1 and the projections 21 instead of having a tapering transition portion joining them to the remainder of the plate as shown can have a shoulder. Instead of the plate 21 being welded to the load supporting member 17 it can be provided with an upwardly facing cut out bracket for receiving a flange of a shelf.
