[Also in Division G2] An etching process under the action of supersonic vibrations for applying titles, texts and the like to finished positive films, wherein the titles &c. are stamped out in a protective layer applied to the film, is distinguished by the feature that when the film is immersed in an aqueous etching solution, for black and white films, etching takes place at a frequency of 30 Œ 10 kc/s. at a temperature of up to 20‹ C. and, for colour films, at a frequency of 50 Œ 10 kc/s. at a temperature of up to 30‹ C. A wetting agent, e.g. alkyl phenol or polyglycol, may be added to the etching solution.
