Abstract

1,061,620. Granulating apparatus. KOPPERS CO. Inc. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 13. 1963]. No. 46428/64. Heading B5A. In a process of granulating pitch into pencil-like pieces the pitch is conveyed from a storage tank 13 to an extruder tank 15 from which it is extruded in streams through valves 18 and nozzles 37 into a water - filled cooling tank wherein the streams solidify into spirally shaped lengths which are broken by a screw conveyer 29 and conveyed by a bucket conveyer 27 to a delivery belt 31 below a cooling air blower 33. The outlet die of the nozzle is of oval shape.
