Abstract

1,061,615. Electric space storage heaters. MANTLE & BUTTERWORTH HOLDINGS Ltd. April 29, 1964, No. 17672/64. Heading F4U. An electric storage heater 10 has a storage mass 20, a first passageway 22 through which primary air passes to contact the storage mass 20 on its way to an outlet 46 and a second passageway 44, 45 through which secondary air passes to the outlet 46 without contacting the storage mass, a thermostatically controlled valve 28 in the second passageway to control the secondary air flow and a thermostatically controlled drum valve 58, set to operate at a temperature range higher than that of valve 28, in the first passageway 22 to control the primary air flow. Air from fan 42 enters cold air space 44 and flows both via passageway 22 and via valve 28 which comprises a sliding plate 30 having holes which may register with holes in wall 26, to mixing space 45 and out of outlet 46. The cold air flow through valve 28 is thermo. statically controlled. When valve 28 is fully open the warm air flow through passageway 22 may be controlled by the thermostatically operated drum valves 58 which until then remain fully open. Valve 28 may be of the drum type and there may be two or more valves in passageway 22. The storage heater has a steel casing and mineral fibre insulation.
