Abstract

1,061,650. Producing sealed containers from tubing. HAMAC-HANSELLA A.G. Oct. 31, 1963 [July 24, 1963], No. 43022/63. Heading B8C. To permit the feeding stroke of jaws 20 which effect a transverse seal across a packaging tube containing material to be varied, the feeding movement is effected by a chain or belt secured at 24 to a pulley 25 which is oscillated bodily about a pivot 391, and the chain or belt passes over a pulley 33 whose position may be adjusted to vary the stroke. The pulley 33 is mounted on an arm 35 adjustable by a hand-operated screw 38 to swing about a fixed pivot 351 which preferably coincides with the uppermost position of the centre of the pulley 25. Rotary movement of the pulley 25 is prevented by a chain 30 connecting it to a fixed pulley 31. The oscillatory bodily movement of the pulley 25 is derived through a connecting rod 26 from a crank disc 27. The mechanism is such that the position of the top dead centre of the jaws 20 is substantially unchanged when the stroke is changed. A spring 300 limits the tension in the chains. The jaws 20, which move horizontally or vertically to effect the feed of the tube, are moved in one direction by gravity or by springs.
