Abstract

Foamed polyurethanes are prepared by reacting in the presence of water and/or another blowing agent, an organic polyisocyanate and a polyhydroxyl compound containing at least one tertiary amino group said polyhydroxyl compound being an adduct of an alkylene oxide with a condensate of (a) formaldehyde, (b) an aromatic amine and/or phenol which is reactive to formaldehyde and (c) an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic primary amine. Aromatic amines and phenols specified are aniline, toluidines, N-ethyl anilines, naphthylamines, phenylenediamines, toluylenediamines, N-methyl aniline, N: N-di-methyl aniline, diamodiphenylmethane, phenol, cresols, ethyl phenols, dimethylphenols and 4-t-butyl phenol. Aliphatic amines specified are methyl-, ethyl-, butyl-, and isopropylamine and cyclohexylamine or hexahydrotoluidines or ethylene diamine or hexamethylene diamine. The polyisocyanate may be aliphatic or aromatic and may be contain sulphur or phosphorus.
