Abstract
1,061,143. Sheet delivery apparatus. J. V. BAILEY, G. C. FORTIN, M. C. STANLEY and J. G. ARNOLD. Aug. 15, 1963 [Aug. 16, 1962], No. 31406/62. Heading B6H. A paper web 11 fed at constant speed is cut into sheets, each sheet 116 is grasped by a pair of accelerating rollers 117 just before it is cut from the web and, when the sheet is cut, accelerates it to move at a speed higher than the web speed and passes it to a pair of transport 123 which transport the sheet at a constant speed equal to the accelerated speed imparted thereto by the rollers 117. The sheets cut from the web are thus separated from each other for subsequent processing. The sheets are cut by a fixed knife 113 and a rotary knife 112 having two blades 114, 115, and the rotation of the knife 112 is synchronized with the individual printed designs on the web e.g. by photo-electric or other means which co-operate with printed marks or perforations along the edge of the web. The accelerating rollers 117 are driven by elliptical gears or by crank mechanism from a constant-speed shaft so that the speed of the rollers varies cyclically.
