Abstract

1,061,041. Extruding. FIELDING & PLATT Ltd., R. H. GREEN, and S. F. JENKINS Jan. 6, 1964 [Jan. 11, 1963; Aug. 30, 1963], Nos. 1432/63 and 34465/63. Heading B3P. An hydraulic extrusion press has an axially movable billet container 3 running on guide surfaces 10 of the press frame. The surfaces 10 are formed on bosses 9 of the main press head 2, through which extend the pre-stressed press tie rods 8. Container 3 has integral lugs 4 carrying guide blocks 11 adjustable by screws 13 for accurate aligning of the container. The latter is moved by rods 5 connected to cylinders. In another embodiment the bosses are separate from but securely clamped to the press head. This clamping may be effected by end nuts after heating the columns 8 with electric resistance heating inserted into bores of the columns.
