Abstract
1,059,857. Protecting semi-conductor circuits. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. June 11, 1964 [June 12, 1963], No. 24214/64. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G3] An arrangement for protecting a thyristor against overvoltages comprises a voltage divider including an impedance 7, which, when a transient appears fires the thyristor due to the non- proportionate voltage distribution, hence transferring the voltage to the load. The impedance 7 may be a resistor or the secondary winding of a transformer to which the control pulses are fed. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown), an impedance is in series with the cathode, the voltage rise across which is fed to the firing device 5 to render the thyristor conductive. The arrangement shown is applicable to a control circuit where the device 5 normally maintains the voltage across the load 2 constant.
