Abstract

An alkanolamine acetate or acetylated alkanolamine acetate is intimately mixed with Portland cement, preferably in an amount 0.005-0.050% by weight of the cement, as a pack set inhibitor. The acetate may be introduced during the grinding of the cement clinker, in which case it acts also as a grinding aid.
