Abstract
1,058,611. Road surfaces. SOC EDISON. Aug. 2, 1963 [Aug. 24, 1962; May 29, 1963], No. 30805/63. Heading E1G. A method of surfacing a road comprises laying stiffening reinforcements formed by cellular structures of plastics material and the road to be surfaced and filling the interstices with concrete. The cellular structures have walls of a single thickness and are of a type suitable to be embedded in the concrete. The components of the cellular structures may be of square, Fig. 1 (not shown), or polygonal configuration having reinforcements (2) in the side walls and grooves (4) which serve to interlock with tongues (3) of an adjacet component to make up the structure. Alternatively the components may be in the form of cylinders or strips of zig-zag configuration, Figs. 3 and 4 not shown which can be assembled to form an openwork structure. In a further arrangement strips of a plastics material which are obtained by extrusion are secured together by welding to form an openwork structure as illustrated in Fig. 5 (not shown).
