Abstract

1,058,362. Moulding hollow articles. FEDERAL CARTRIDGE CORPORATION. Aug. 6, 1964, No. 32121/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F3] A shotgun cartridge case formed from a thermoplastic material has a wall which has been stretched radially and longitudinally. A blank moulded from polyethylene, polypropylene or a related polyolefin is heated and forced on a tapered male draw die (29) (Fig. 8, not shown) which is heated at (30) and passed through the tapered portion (36) of a female die (32), heated at (37), under the action of a hydraulic press (34) and guided by a block (35), the blank being stretched until its upper end 38) enters a stripper groove (39). In a further embodiment the stretched cartridge case is cooled by being sprayed with a cooling solution as it is ejected from the die structure.
