Abstract

An alloy steel, having a fine-grained ferritic microstructure containing precipitated carbides or carbonitrides of Nb and/or V and not more than 2% by volume of pearlite has the following percentage composition:- .C.up to 0.08 .Mn.0.85 - 2.5 .N.0.001 - 0.03 .Si.0 - 1.2 .Nb.0.01 - 0.2 .and/or. .V.0.01 - 0.3 Fe and incidental elements, the remainder. The C content may be up to 0.1 if the Nb and/or V is at least 0.06.
