Abstract
1,057,838. Gas-filters. H. LUHR. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 27, 1963], No. 30953/64. Addition to 1,051,951. Heading B1T. Filter cells 9 each comprise granular material 17 (sand, gravel or Kieselguhr) between mesh walls 15, 16 and are arranged in horizontal and vertical rows (Fig. 2, not shown) in one or more common housings, successive vertical rows of three cells being cleaned by forcing air from a fan 8 through the cells in the reverse direction. The chamber wall 1a has a horizontal row of vertical slots 4 each opening into a channel member 25 which in turn has three slots 14 each opening to the downstream side of one cell 9 of a vertical row. Slots 4 open into a chamber 5 which receives the filtered gas, and in chamber 5 a nozzle 7 moves horizontally to direct backwashing air to each slot 4 in turn. The material 17 does not fill the space between walls 15, 16, to permit turbulence during backwashing. A series of plates (26, 27, Fig. 2) carried by the cells 9 directs dust-laden gas down and then up before entering a cell, which removes heavier dust from the gas prior to filtration and directs it, together with lighter dust blown from cells being cleaned, downwards to hopper 18. Plates (26, 27) also prevent dust backwashed from one vertical row of cells from entering other cells.
