Abstract

1,057,885. Control of A.C. motors. ALFRED HERBERT Ltd. July 30, 1963 [Aug. 2, 1962], No.29676/62. Heading H2J. [Also in Division G3] An induction motor 31 has its speed reduced before stopping by an opening contactor 102 and closing contactor 103. As shaft 20 rotates at a low speed, coil 24 is coupled with coil 23 through gap 21 in disc 18, so actuating bistable circuit 27 which prepares gate 28 to stop the motor when coil 25 is coupled to coil 23 through gap 22 in disc 19. In this manner, the shaft 20 is stopped finally in a desired angular position. The voltage applied across each stator phase winding is reduced to provide operation at the creep speed, a phase winding being supplied from a bridge rectifier 40 associated with controlled rectifier 41 whose firing angle is varied by a signal derived from transformer 42. The primary winding of the transformer 42 is connected to trigger circuit 43, the rectifier 40 being connected to three-phase transformer 49. The trigger circuit 43 is connected to transformer winding 52 through lines 55, to the transformer 42 through terminals 66, and to transformer winding 77 through lines 76, the maximum duration of the pulse from the trigger circuit being determined by resistor 65 associated with transistor 63. According to Fig. 3 (not shown) a variable resistor (64) determines the minimum duration of the pulse and the angle of conduction of rectifier 41. The voltage applied to transistor (63) by variable resistor (61) is opposed by a rectified voltage from winding 77 proportional to the speed of the motor, the magnitude of the power pulses applied to the stator winding 32 being reduced in accordance with the speed feed-back signal. A speed control circuit 87 comprises a tachometer generator having an input winding which is energized with alternating-current, and an output winding applying signal through a transistor amplifier to the primary winding of the transformer 78.
