In a flat-iron with an open handle; a thermostat, and a control knob at the front end of the handle for adjustment of the thermostat setting, the control knob is connected to the thermostat by a flexible shaft. Rotation of control knob 4 (the Fig, not shown) is transmitted by toothed rim 6, gear wheel 7, sleeve 12 on one end of flexible shaft 8, sleeve 13 on the other end, gear-wheel 9 and toothed rim 10 to the rotary member 11 of the thermostat.
