Abstract
1,056,164. Making metal sheets; rolling. T. HIRONE. April 8, 1964 [April 9, 1963], No. 14447/64. Headings B3A and B3M. A method of preventing the edges of brittle plate, strip or sheet material 2 from splitting during rolling comprises providing an edging 4 of relatively ductile material along the longitudinal edges of the brittle material before rolling. The ductile material may be mild steel, Sn-Sb solder, rubber, celluloid, or a synthetic resin, and the plate a Si-Fe or Al-Fe alloy. The edging strips are welded, soldered, baked, or deposited on the brittle material according to their composition.
