Abstract

1,056,063. Lighting buildings; daylight diffusers. COMPONENT COORDINATION Ltd. July 5, 1963 [April 16, 1962], No. 13413/ 63. Headings E1A and E1J. A building 2, 4 has a planar diffuser 1, e.g. constituted by two glass sheets with a layer of glass fibres therebetween, inclined to the vertical with its lower edge relative to its upper edge lying inwardly of the building. The angle of inclination is such that the flux of solar light is strongest in a desired direction. This is possible because the spatial light distribution of the light emerging from the diffusor has a maximum (or maximer) in a direction(s) which varies with the angle of incidence and this latter angle is chosen so that the maximum direction of the emergent light is directed toward the ceiling, so that at midday the light diffused directly into the room is less them at other times and the light directed toward the ceiling is strongest. The diffusor may be incorporated into a window assembly 1, 13 which has opening window components 9, 16 and the diffusor 1 itself may partake of a sliding movement to open or close the window containing it. The windows 1 and 13 may lie in the same inclined plane.
