Abstract

1,055,441. Catamenial napkins. J. YAMAGUCHI and I. KITADE. July 22. 1963 [Dec. 29, 1962; July 10, 1963], No. 28884/63. Heading A5R. A catamenial napkin comprises an outer layer 1 of water-repellent fibres, a second fibre layer 2 and below these a pad consisting of alternate layers of absorbent powder or comminuted fibres 4. which have been treated with adhesive, and absorbent crepe paper 3, and including a waterproof wrapper 5 which leaves a portion of the outer fibre layer 1 exposed. The outer layer 1 is made of fibres of acetate cellulose, polyacrylic, polyvinyl, polyester or polyamide materials, polypropylene or poly vinylidene chloride, which may be mixed with paper fibres and are treated with an adhesive which is soluble in water below 30‹C. and insoluble in water about 30‹C., e.g. saponified polyvinyl alcohol. The powder or comminuted fibre layer consists of cotton or other natural fibre or viscose rayon and is treated with the same adhesive. Calcium carbonate may be added. The waterproof wrapper is made of low wet strength paper consisting of hydrophilic fibres and treated with an aluminium salt. The pads are assembled in a continuous process from rolls 18, 19, 21 (Fig. 15, not shown) of the material for the outer layer, the second layer 2 on a crepe paper backing 3 and the powder or comminuted layer 4 on a crepe paper backing 3 respectively, the waterproof wrapper material being supplied from a roll 24.
