Abstract
Liquefied petroleum gases, e.g. C3 and C4 hydrocarbons are cooled to below 40 DEG F. and simultaneously dried by directly contacting the liquefied petroleum gas with an aqueous liquid coolant, said coolant being initially at a temperature below that of the liquefied petroleum gas. The term "aqueous liquid coolant" is defined as an aqueous coolant solution which cools the liquefied petroleum gas to the selected temperature without freezing and examples given are concentrated aqueous solutions of sodium or calcium chlorides. The contact may be effected countercurrently.
