Abstract

1,055,048. Percussive tools. ATLAS COPCO A.B. Oct. 13, 1965 [Oct. 19, 1964], No. 43411/65. Heading B4C. [Also in Division F1] A percussive tool such as a road breaker, comprises a piston 23 adapted to reciprocate in a housing 21 and strike the shank 27 of a tool 26 and a noise deadening means including a layer of vibration damping material 53 surrounding the housing and covered by a metallic shell 52. The housing 21, is arranged to enter a front casing portion 22 and a head portion 15, the three portions being held together by the rods 31, Fig. 2 (not shown). The front casing is covered by a synthetic rubber sheet 56 covered by a metallic sheet 57, the composite casing being separated from a similar casing 50 covering the housing 21 by a rubber ring 49; a rubber ring 48 separates the upper end of the casing 50 from a flange 42 on the housing. A laminated muffler 54 is arranged to cover exhaust ports 32 and is itself provided with outlet ports 55. In a modification the muffler is adapted to be an integral part of a rubber tube 72, Fig. 8 (not shown) surrounding a steel cylinder 70 covering a vibration damping layer 71. The tool 26 is also partly covered with a resilient layer 59 surrounded by a metallic tube 60 and retained in the front casing by means of split cups 34, 35 carried by a rubber cylinder 36 in which they are held by beads 37; the rubber cylinder is retained in the casing by a bead 38.
