Abstract
1,054,969. Aircraft undercarriages. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. June 24, 1965 [June 30, 1964], No. 27015/64. Heading B7G. A sideways retracting aircraft undercarriage is shortened during retraction by a linkwork 16 (Fig. 1, not shown) connected to the airframe 11 and to strut 12 adjacent its main pivot 13 so that during retraction the linkwork shortens. This shortening movement is transmitted by a link 163 (Fig. 4, not shown) connected by lug 17 to a member 25 slidable within leg 12 and formed with annular lugs 26, 27 which cooperate with a projection 28 on a further member 29 which is connected by a strut 20 to the shock absorber 19 and bogie unit 14. Member 29 carries a plurality of rods 31 supporting springs 35 which urge an annular locking sleeve 34 downwardly to force the enlarged ends of a plurality of locking claws 32 into an annular recess in member 12, whereby landing loads are transmitted through members 20, 29, 32, 12. Upon retraction linkage 16 shortens, thereby drawing members 25 and 34 upwardly against the action of springs 35 to free the enlarged ends of claws 32 so that they may disengage from annular recess 33 by rocking about their upper ends 321. The whole of the inner components may then slide upwardly within member 12 (Fig. 6, not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 995,469.
