Abstract
1,053,210. Protective arrangements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 23, 1963 [Oct. 26, 1962], No. 21333/66. Divided out of 1,044,187. Heading H2K. [Also in Division H1] A liquid immersed capacitor &c. is arranged to be disconnected from a terminal 14a upon the pressure in a containing housing 2 becoming excessive. The terminal 14a is normally connected to another terminal 14, connected by a lead 4 to the capacitor, by a tinned copper strip 26. Upon bulging of a cover 8 of the housing 2, the strip 26 is fractured at a weakened portion 27 (Fig. 2, not shown) and a torsion spring 22 then separates the free ends of the strip 26 to prevent re-engagement. In an alternative form strip 26 may be replaced by a thin copper wire whose ends, when broken, are burned away by the arc created by the inductive voltage produced by the ballast circuit at interruption, the capacitor being employed in a fluorescent lamp circuit.
