Abstract
1,052,701. Steel springs. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. July, 15, 1963 [April 16, 1962], No. 14575/62. Heading C7A. A steel spring is made from an alloy comprising: - C 0À25 - 0À55% Mn 0À25 - 3À0% Si 1 - 2À5% Mo 0À5 - 3À0% Cu 1 - 3% V 0À1 - 1À0% the balance, apart from impurities (such as nickel up to 0À2%), being iron, which has been heat treated by soaking at above the AC 3 temperature, quenching (e. g. in oil or water) and tempering. The tempering temperature must be at least 500‹C e.g. up to 600‹C and in examples the soaking temperature is 1000‹C and that of tempering 575‹C.
