A lifejacket comprises a plurality of flexible air-filled tubes H, Fig. 1 (not shown), of polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene, each sealed at intervals K along its length to form a buoyant string of independent air-sacs F enclosed within an inflatable envelope which consists of two similar superimposed flexible panels A and B united around their external and internal peripheries. The air-sacs F have sufficient buoyancy to keep a wearer's head above water but for full flotation the envelope is inflatable orally and/or from a container of compressed gas. The lifejacket may also be a stole-like appliance with two separate lobes connected across the wearer's chest.
