Abstract

Pistons, balancinq laterally and reducing and equalizing wear of. - In an internalcombustion engine having a piston and cylinder both of aluminium or aluminium alloy, the piston is provided with bearing-pieces C, C' of steel or other metal in order to prevent contact of the piston body with the cylinder wall. The bearing-pieces may be in the form of rings secured in position during casting or sprung into grooves in the piston, and may be of rectangular section, as shown in Fig. 2, or may be bevelled, as shown in Fig. 3, and may be provided with key projections C<3>. The bearing-rings may be divided at one point only, or may be divided into sections, preferably on oblique lines. The gudgeon-pin bearings D are preferably cast in position, and may be formed in one with the bearing pieces.
