In a ball nut, a ball-return passage comprises tangential grooves 6, in the end faces of the nut, which are joined by a helical groove 8 formed in the circumferential surface of the nut, end plates 7 co-operating with the tangential grooves 6 and a sleeve 11 co-operating with the circumferential groove 8 to retain the balls in the grooves. The end plates 7 are formed with projections 9, 10 for guiding the balls to and from the tangential grooves 6. The sleeve 11 is formed at one end with a flange 12 and at the other end with a screw thread 13 in which a plug 14 is screwed.
