Abstract

1,050,777. Fluid-pressure control of track brakes. KLOCKNER-WERKE A.G. July 27, 1965 [July 28, 1964], No. 31952/65. Headings F2E and F2F. A cage-supporting trolley (not shown) which is adapted to run on a rigid track 1 of an overhead railway carries means for braking the trolley should a predetermined speed be exceeded, such means comprising a pair of shoes 19, 20 adapted to be expanded into engagement with flanges of the track by an eccentric 21 coupled to piston-rod 22 of a piston 4 acted on by a spring 3, the brake normally being held released by hydraulic fluid which has been pumped by a manually-operated pump 14 into the cylinder 2 from a reservoir 12, the fluid being released via conduits 7 and 17 back to the reservoir by a valve 8 operable automatically, should the predetermined speed be exceeded, under control of a speed monitoring device 6, to apply, the brake in this event. The monitoring device may be either a centrifugally operated device or a device constructed in the manner of a tachometer generator operating the valve electro-mechanically. A second valve 9 in a parallel conduit 7a also releases the fluid to apply the brake and is operable by a pull cord 10 within reach of passengers in the cage. Measuring means 18 indicates the mechanical prestress of the piston 4.
