Abstract

1,050,287. Hollow plate heat exchangers. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd. Aug. 4, 1964, No. 31606/64. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a stack of spacedapart hollow plates 1 of extruded metal in which passages 7 are provided for a first heatexchange fluid, a second heat-exchange fluid passing between the plates transversely to the line of flow of the first heat-exchange fluid. In the form shown, pairs of tubular members 13 are formed at each end with spigots 14 fitting into apertures near the ends of the plates so that the members 13 act as spacers and as headers. Inlet and outlet headers may be provided at one end, the members at the other end being interconnected to give an overall U-shaped flow bath. The ends 16 of the plates are closed by brazing or welding. In another form, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), metal strips 6 are used as spacers, headers being provided at the open ends of the plates. Corrugated plates 5 serve as secondary heat-exchange surfaces.
