Abstract
A zirconium based alloy contains 0.005 - 1% of cerium, a total of at least 0.05% of one or more of Nb, Sn, Fe, Cu, Ni, Cr, V, Mo, W, Tar Pd in the range up to 5% each, the balance, apart from impurities, being zirconium. The alloy may be used for fuel cans on structural elements in nuclear reactors. In examples the alloys are made by melting the component elements in an arc furnace under argon at a pressure of 200 mm. of mercury, the alloy then being homogenized by double remelting.
