Abstract

Synthetic resins are obtained by co-condensation of (a) formaldehyde; (b) a five-member ring compound containing -NH-CO-NH- with the other two ring atoms being N or C and any substitute containing only C, H, Ha and ether and/or keto O; (c) a compound having a plurality of NH2 groups attached to a C which is attached to intracyclic N in a ring containing only N and C atoms; and/or (d) an aromatic monosulphonamide free from N-substituents, the molar ratio (a):(b) + (c) + (d) being 1:2 to 2:1 and (c):(b) + (d) being 1:20 to 20:1. Numerous examples are given of the individual compounds and of such resins. A dye or other colouring matter may be incorporated at any stage of the condensation and the product ground to provide a pigment which is compatible with various other resins, especially alkylene polymers. In examples such pigments are incorporated in (U) an alkyd/mineral spirit paint; (V) a chloro-sulphonated polyethylene/xylol spray-coating composition; (W) a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate plastisol; and (X) a cellulose butyrate/mixed solvent wood-coating composition, all of which contain also conventional additives.
